Our Mission:
Our mission is to provide a safer, more stable and rewarding life for those who suffer from Type One Brittle Diabetes and / or Epilepsy through our highly trained Service Dogs.
Awareness K-9 Foundation Inc. Is a 501c3 tax-exempt Foundation. We received our status on February 18, 2004 and got our state exempt status on September 3, 2002.
I have learned through my husband, Jeff, that taking care of a person with either Type One Brittle Diabetes and/or Epilepsy can be tiring not only for the person with these particular illnesses, but also on the family, friends and loved ones. The most respondsability is carried by our four legged buddies, the service dog.
Service Dogs are very special in my book. They are trained to get help when help is needed. They are very sensitive about feelings that you have and if they can not help, they'll figure it out a solution.
Colby, my Service Dog,is very dedicated to me and my husband, Jeff. She not only alerts him to my low blood sugars, but also to my high blood sugars. We got her when she was eight weeks old and on the way home I had a reaction. The way she was barking before I checked my blood sugar gave away that she knew my blood sugars were off, before I was even aware of it.
This program is not for everyone. It is for the person who is tired of the insulin reactions and who needs more than normal help. The person one of our service dogs may help couldbe someone you know!
Having one of these diseases is difficult for a person afflicted, but our highly trained service dogs, like Colby, can help you and your family, friends and loved ones.
Have you ever wanted to help us, but just could afford to? |
