We have found that German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Flat-Coated Retrievers and Smooth-Coated Retriever are excellent dogs for the service which they are trained. These breeds detect changes in a persons body chemistry making them highly effective noticing Diabetic reactions and Epileptic attacks. Once trained, they will alert the persons support team to these changes. On a day-to-day basis Service Alert Dogs have to endure a great deal working with their clients. At times, they can be the only life line for their human partners, never mind being a loving and caring constant companion. Those without Diabetes or Epilepsy often do not understand the hardship it is to live with these illnesses. Think of where you are right now and imagine what it would be like to have one of these illnesses with no one there to help. This is where our Service Alert Dogs are invaluable. Placement and traning is a complex process in which all parties must take part in. The training for each Service Alert Dog with their human partner and support team is is unique and life long. If you know of a dog that might show this type of potential or know of anyone who needs one of our Service Alert Dogs please contact us at (508) 292-7977.
